The total number of entrants in Event #2 of the 2009 World Series of Poker ($40k NLHE) was a popular topic of debate over the past couple of months.
There were many side bets made prior to the World Series of Poker as to the total number of people that would sign up to play in this event.
Some people thought that the number would be 150. Others thought that this was far too pessimistic, and that the final total would fall somewhere in the 250-300 player range.
in the end, the total number of entrants was: 201.
This ends up creating a total prize pool of just over $7.7 million dollars.
The first place finisher in this event will walk away with just under $1.9 million dollars, while the runner-up will receive $1.17 million.
The top 27 finishers in this tournament will all receive at least $71,858.
All in all, certainly not a bad turnout for this event, given the size of the buy-in.
As you could expect, many of the top poker players in the world turned out for this event.
Names such as Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein, Phil Hellmuth and Doyle Brunson are all playing today.
A number of poker's "young guns", including Justin Bonomo, Phil Galfond and Chad Batista, have all registered to play in the event as well.
A number of well-known names have already hit the rail, just a few short hours into the event.
Tom "durrrr" Dwan, Dario Minieri and Jonathan Little all hit the rail early on Day 1.
Ted Forrest, Antonio Esfandiari, Justin Bonomo and Tony G are all currently sitting near the top of the leaderboard.
We'll have another update once Day #1 wraps up later today.
